02/05/23- Squirt A Weekly Update
From Heather - Hi Everyone,
Here's what our week looks like:
Monday: practice at 7:10pm
Wednesday: practice at 5:10pm
Friday: practice at 7:10pm
Saturday: Home game at 9:20am, arrive by 8:50am, yellow jerseys

Important Information:
The end of the season is rapidly approaching! This weekend was the last weekend to have games count towards our state ranking. Once the rankings have finalized, our state tournament will be decided. Please note, once the state tournament has completed, the season is over and no further CHC games are able to be played. Therefore, you may see several games start to be cancelled from our calendar. There is also a possibility that we qualify for the Tier IV Championship, which is held the week of 2/13-2/19 in Northford. If this is the case, then it means our season is over in 2 weeks. Once we have the tournament schedule from the CHC, we will let you know asap.
Tryout dates and next season's coaches will be announce this week - keep an eye out on social media and the HYHA website!

Additional Information:
Our hotel is the Hampton Inn Colchester, VT. The address is 42 Lower Mountain View Drive, Colchester. Remember, they are going to have us sign a good neighbor agreement when we get there, which includes quiet times and no drinking alcohol outside of our rooms. Please adhere to the rules, we don't want to get kicked out! Spare Time is a bar/sports pub next door, so we should plan to be hanging out there instead of at the hotel.
The tournament is asking for teams to be ready to go 15 mins prior to our games, so please keep this in mind and come earlier than the arrival time if needed. Mouth guards are also required.
Both Highgate and CPSC are on livebarn, so families back home will be able to watch the games!
Friday night Angie is planning a bowling party for our team at Spare Time, right next to our hotel. She will give further details to the team. Please let her know if you are interested!
Saturday afternoon we are planning a team lunch at VT Pub and Brewery at 11:30am. They are located at 144 College St, Burlington, VT. This won't be anything formal - we will just having families come who want to and grab some food. They don't take reservations, but I have called them to let them know we are coming and they open at 11:30am, so we should be able to sit in the same area.
Tournament swag/gear can be purchased at CPSC throughout the tournament weekend.
Our cookie dough fundraiser is still going on! Please see Angie for any questions.
Have a great week and see you in VT!

01/11/23- VT Tournament Schedule and Information
Hi Everyone,
I just received the VT tournament schedule so wanted to send it to you all so you can plan your weekend. We have 3 games, with the potential to play an additional game based on our ranking. There are 10 teams in our division, and it appears they divide us into two groups. They do the championship by having the team ranked #1 in each group play each other. They also have the #2 team of each group play a game against each other, and do the same with the #3 teams and #4 teams of each group. They also needed to expand the games to a rink ~17 mins north of St. Alban's, due to the number of teams they have in the tournament. Since this additional rink is more north, this means it's ~35 mins from our hotel.
Schedule:
Friday:
10:30am game at Highgate
2pm game at Highgate
Saturday:
8:10am game at Highgate
Potential Games:
Saturday at 6:10pm Team #4 vs Team #4 (CPSC)
Sunday at 8:10am Team #3 vs Team #3 (CPSC)
Sunday at 9:20am Team #2 vs Team #2 (CPSC)
Sunday at 2pm Team #1 vs Team #1 (CPSC, Championship game)
Important Information:
In the rules it lists that all players need mouth guards. I don't know how closely they will be checking, but you should plan on bringing one to the games.
The snack bar will be open all weekend at both rinks. Word is that the Highgate rink has some of the best french fries and hot sandwiches in the area!
There is a charge to get into the St. Alban's rink for all parents. Players and children until 12 are free to get in. It is $5 per day, or $10 for the weekend, with a $30 family limit.
There will be a raffle set up at the St. Alban's rink and apparel available to purchase during the tournament weekend.
No playing hockey outside of the ice, and they have asked to not let the kids run around in the facilities.
Games will NOT be cancelled due to weather, so if there's snow that weekend, be ready to dig your car out!
Rink Addresses:
Collins Perley Sports Center (CPSC)
890 Fairfax Road
St. Albans, VT 05478
Highgate Recreation Facility
243 Gore Rd,
Highgate Center, VT 05459
The tournament director sent a list of local restaurants - if you are interested in seeing her list let me know and I'll forward it to you. She is also going to send some fun things to do locally for when we aren't at the rink. I will pass that along too. Since we are playing mostly morning games, this gives us a chance to do something fun in the evening time. We will have to figure something out!

01/01/23- Squirt A Weekly Update
From Heather - Hi Everyone,

Wednesday: Skills at 5pm
Friday: Practice at 7pm
Saturday: home game at 9:20am, arrival by 8:50am. Yellow jerseys.

12/26/22- Squirt A Weekly Update
From Heather - Hi Everyone,
I hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend! It's now tournament week! Here's what our week looks like:
Tuesday: game at 10:30am in Northford Red Rink, arrive by 9:45am
Wednesday:
- game #1 at 8:15am in Hamden, arrive 7:45am
- game #2 at 2pm in Northford Blue rink, arrive by 1:15pm
Important Information:
I confirmed with the tournament director that we are playing in Hamden on Wed morning. West Haven must have loaded the game into CHC (because I did not load it) and it has since changed locations.
It does not list who is home or away for the games, so bring both jerseys to every game. We will figure it out when we get there what color jersey we should be wearing.
I also don't know when the semi-final games or final game is scheduled - once I hear I will let everyone know on whatsapp. I'm assuming semi-finals will be 12/29 and finals will be 12/30.
There will be a T-shirt tent in the lobby of the Northford rink from 12/28-30.
They will also be broadcasting on SoluBroadcasting.org the semi-final and final games. It's $9.99 to watch the game, paid on their website. The guy who does the broadcasting will provide play by play commentary throughout the game, just like they do the in the NHL. It's fun to watch.
I won't be there tomorrow (I have to work, boo!), so I will be cheering on from a distance. Have a great game tomorrow and see you on Wednesday!
Heather

11/20/22- Squirt A Weekly Update
Hi Everyone,
Here's what our week looks like:
Mon: Practice at 7pm
Wed: No practice
Thurs: Happy Thanksgiving!
Fri: Practice at 7pm - seems like the team is leaning towards cancelling this practice. The Coaches will finalize their plans in the whatsapp this week.
Sat and Sun: no games!
Important Information:
-Thanks to everyone who has paid me for the tournament. If you have yet to pay, please venmo me @heatherlcarney or you can give me/Coach Carney $20 at practice. If you did not see my email from earlier in the week, we have a hotel block arranged for the tournament. Please use this to book your room in order to receive a discounted room rate.
Everyone has now received their raffle tickets. Once you have finished selling you 10 tickets, please give the ticket stubs to me. You can give your money to me or to Coach Derek. You can also venmo the money to the new HYHA venmo @HYHA2022. We are getting quite the list of prizes! If you know of someone or a business who might want to donate, please let me know and I will add their information to the HYHA website. Remember, each team has a minimum number of tickets to sell (10 tickets per player). Our minimum is 150 tickets. The money for any tickets we sell above 150 will go directly to the DeFrancesco family. Once we hit the 150 mark, I will let you guys know! Also, the team who sells the most will get a pizza party.
Next Friday, 12/2, is our QU hockey game! We will be playing West Haven at QU and then will be staying for the QU men's hockey game afterwards. This is really a fun experience for the kids. There is a block of 50 tickets on hold for us so that we can all sit together. The tickets are $15 each. I will need to give QU a list of names and how many tickets each family would like. Please let me know how many tickets you want to buy - first come first serve. We have to buy all 50 tickets, so if it looks like we won't be using all of them, I will open up sales to other teams. Also, you do not need to purchase a ticket in order to watch our game against West Haven - this is open to anyone. Let me know if you have any questions!
Have a nice week and Happy Thanksgiving!
Heather
11/16/22- VT Tournament Info
Hi Everyone,
Here's some information about the VT tournament. Please read!
Tournament:
Maple City Face-off Tournament in St. Alban's, VT.
There are guaranteed 4 games played, with games starting on Friday Jan 27th.
Our fundraising has paid almost all of the tournament fees! In order to finish out the rest of the tournament fee, I'm asking for everyone to pay me $20 (cash, check, venmo @heatherlcarney). If you aren't able to come to the tournament, please let me know ASAP as this will change the individual cost of the tournament for everyone else.
Hotel Information:
I made a hotel block at the Hampton Inn by Hilton Colchester for 1/26-1/29, in case people want to get up there Thursday night. Rate is $189/night. This is not a stay to play tournament, so you can stay wherever you would like. I made a hotel block for your convenience.
Please use this link to make your hotel reservation. Or, if you want to call them directly, you can speak with Brittany at 802-318-9032. The hotel block is for double rooms, but if you want a larger room (ie suite), you should call Brittany directly. All rooms have a fridge and microwave. There is also an indoor salt water pool and free breakfast each morning.
We will be one of 4 hockey programs there, and they know how youth sports teams can be, so we all have to sign a "good neighbor" agreement when we get to the hotel. I have it attached so everyone can read it. Cliff notes version: no alcohol outside of private rooms, no excessive noise, excessive noise complaints = our entire team being kicked out of the hotel with no refunds, 10pm curfew.
The hotel did let us know about the sports bar next door that we can hang out at instead (see below).
Sparetime:
The sports bar next to the hotel is called Sparetime and it is not only a bar, but also a bowling alley with an arcade and 2 story laser tag.
It is open until 12:30am, so definitely the place to hang out, make noise, and have the kids get their energy out during the weekend.
Once we get the tournament schedule, we will look into having a team party there. We will let you know what we can arrange.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Angie has bags to collect the shoes in. They will take any kind of shoe, as long as they don't have holes in them. So start looking for shoes you want to get out of your house! If you have any questions, Angie will be able to help!

Important Announcements:
Jeff DeFrancesco's wake will be on Tuesday 10/25 from 4pm-7pm at the North Haven Funeral home. If you are planning on going, please wear your HYHA apparel. Thank you to everyone who donated to the family. Amber Castiline was able to drop off a bunch of gift cards to Kate and she was very touched. We are still collecting for them, so if you would like to venmo Amber, you can still do so. Or you can give money/gift cards directly to me and I will get them to her.

10/23/22- A Tragic Loss to our HYHA Family
Dear Dragon Families,
It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of one of our Mite A team's Dad, Jeffery DeFrancesco. Jeff was a constant at all of Brody’s games and definitely his biggest fan!
The League is committed to helping both the Mite A team and Jeff’s family through this extremely difficult time. Both the League and the Mite A team will be hosting several fundraisers throughout the season, so please keep an eye out for further details on specific fundraisers.
Currently, the Mite A team had helmet stickers made with Jeff’s initials and Brody’s jersey number that our Mites proudly wore at their recent Haunted Shootout Tournament this weekend. Helmet stickers will be distributed to all the teams and we hope you will wear them to support Brody and his family!
If you would like to assist the League with planning for any events and activities to support Jeff’s family and the Mite A team, please contact us at hamdenyouthhockey@gmail.com.
Below is the obituary with details about upcoming services.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
10/23/22- Picture Day is this week!
From HYHA - Good afternoon,
I apologize for the extremely short notice, but our league picture day was just moved up due to an opening in the photographer's schedule. This was done in order to get our pictures back before the holidays this year.
The schedule for each team is below. Each coach will reach out to the team to let them know what color jersey they want them in for the team picture. Team pictures are done by the photographer and you don't all have to be on the ice at the same time. If you need to attend another session you are able to do so.

10/17/22- IPH day change this week
From HYHA - Good evening,
IPH has a conflict this week with the day so instead of cancelling skills, we were able to just switch and have skills on Tuesday instead of Wednesday. This might be a once a month thing, so I will confirm and if so, I will update the calendar.

Peewees: 7:00pm
Bantams: 8:00pm
Practices Wednesday 10/19:
Mites: 5:00pm
Bantam AA: 6:00pm
PwA & Bantam A: 7:00pm
Please let your teams know just in case they don't see the schedule change on the calendar.
Thank you,
Laura
10/16/22- Squirt A Weekly Update
From Heather - Hi Everyone,
This weekend was a sad one for the HYHA family. On Saturday morning we tragically lost Jeff DeFrancesco in a car accident, who's the father of Brody from the Mite A team. The managers of all the teams have been communicating about what we can do to support the DeFrancesco family and have come up with some ideas. As of right now, here are the things we have in place and will update everyone with any additional plans:
We have decided to pledge our excess raffle ticket sales to the DeFrancesco family instead of using it as a fundraiser for the team. Angie has already collected a good amount with the mums sale, but if we need to do additional fundraisers for our team, we will do so at a later time.
Helmet stickers have been ordered to commemorate Jeff and will be distributed to the teams to wear.
If HYHA families are planning on going to his services, we are asking for everyone to wear HYHA jerseys or apparel. It might be nice to coordinate when people are going, so if we want to go as a group we can. The league will send out details of the services once everything is planned.
More information will be coming about other ways to support his family. Other ideas being discussed include a collection for grubhub gift cards, meal trains, league pasta dinner/fundraiser, and venmo donations.
If you or your player are having difficulty with the news of Jeff's passing and would like to talk to someone, please let me know. One of our HYHA members is a crisis counsellor and has offered her services to anyone who might need them during this difficult time. Just send me a confidential text/email and I will connect you to her.
Here's what our week looks like:
Mon: Practice at 7pm
Wed: Skills at 5pm
Fri: Practice at 7pm
Sat: Home game at 9:20am, please arrive by 8:50am. Yellow jerseys.
Sun: Away game at 10:30am at Milford, please arrive by 9:45am. Green jerseys.
Hugs to you all,
Heather

If it's cold outside, it will be really cold in the rink, so dress appropriately. There was one year when Coach Carney had to run to Walgreens to buy the kids handwarmers for their gloves because it was so cold. Hopefully it won't be too bad since it's October (yes, I kept this in mind when I scheduled the game! haha).
Have a great week!

09/26/22- Squirt A Weekly Update
From Heather - Hi Everyone!
Hope everyone got home ok and you all are having a chance to relax tonight. The kids played so well, they should be proud of themselves!
Here's what our week looks like:
Mon: Practice at 7pm
Wed: Skills at 5pm
Fri: Practice at 7pm
Sat: Home game at 9:20am, please arrive by 8:50am. Yellow jerseys.
Important Announcements:
Special thanks to Angie, Melissa, and Coach James who made this weekend special for the kids by making the swag bags, door hangers, and lanyards for everyone.
We had a very successful fundraiser with the mums sale! Angie will give you the final count of how much we raised. We will use this towards our next tournament and/or additional fun things for our team to do.
HYHA will be doing the raffle fundraiser this year, but it will have a little twist to it! Each player is required to sell 10 tickets, and any other tickets they sell beyond the requirement will go directly to the team as their own fundraiser. The team that sells the most tickets will get a pizza party and I believe the top seller in the league will get a prize too. More details to come.
Have a great week!
09/18/22- Squirt A Weekly Update - Tournament Edition
From Heather - Hi Everyone!
It's tournament week! Please note, our practice schedule has changed this week. Here's what our week looks like:
Mon: Practice at 7pm
Tues: Skills at 6pm *Note the day and time change
Tournament Schedule:
Fri: 2:30pm game in Weibel, arrival by 1:45pm. Yellow Jerseys. ***Team picture at 2pm.***
Fri: 7:45pm game in Vernon, arrival by 7:15pm. Green Jerseys
Sat: 2:30pm game in Weibel, arrival by 2pm. Yellow Jerseys
Sun: TBD. Will depend on our ranking. Games will either be 7:15am or 8:30am.
Tournament Rink:
All games will be played at Saratoga Springs Ice Arena, 30 Weibel Ave, Saratoga Springs. There are two rinks there (NHL size and Olympic size rinks), one is named Weibel and the other is Vernon. I believe Vernon is detached from the main rink, but from what I can see in the pictures online, the buildings are right next to each other. We will need to scope it out when we get there. Also, the rinks have livebarn, so if you have family back home who want to watch, they should be able to see the games. If you don't know what livebarn is, it's a website that live streams various rinks in the US/Canada.
Hotel Information:
Everyone has been booked at the Best Western Plus, Saratoga Springs. The address is 3291 S Broadway, Saratoga Springs. According to google maps, it is an 11 min drive to the rink from the hotel.
Swag Bags:
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to purchase things for the swag bags. We are still looking for some items - please checkout the list.:
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/409084AAAA922ABF94-squirt
Thank you to those who have purchased items already! If you haven't not yet gotten them to Angie, please bring them to practice tomorrow.
Team Picture:
There will be a photographer who will be coming to the tournament and will be taking pictures of our team. They have asked for all of the teams to get their pictures taken. I saw a sample of what they do and it looks pretty cool! We will be getting our team picture taken on Friday at 2pm. Please be ready with your yellow jerseys on at 2pm in Weibel by the photographer's area. The pictures take about 10 minutes, then the kids will head to the locker room to meet with the coaches before the game. There is no obligation to buy photos.
Other Hamden Teams Tournament Schedule:
There are two other HYHA teams participating in the tournament (Squirt A, Peewee A) and they will be staying in the same hotel as us. Half the fun of the tournaments is getting to know everyone and cheering on the other Hamden teams. If you would like to watch any of those games, here are their schedules:
Peewee A1
Fri at 3:45pm Weibel
Sat 1:30pm Vernon
Sat at 7:30pm Weibel
Sun either 12:15pm or 12:30pm
Peewee A
Fri at 7:30pm Weibel
Sat 11am Vernon
Sat 5:15pm Vernon
Sun either 9:45am or 10am
Other Important Announcements:
Pay attention to Whatsapp this weekend! This is where I (or the coaches) will provide any updates or changes to the tournament schedule. Also, it's a fun way to find out where everyone is hanging out. :-)
It was too hard with the game schedule to find a time where all teams could get together for the team dinner, so we all will just be doing our own thing! If anyone is heading out to a specific restaurant, text the team and see if anyone wants to join you!
Have a great week everyone! Can't wait to see you all in Saratoga!
Heather

Wed: Skills at 5pm
Fri: Practice at 7pm
Sat: Home game at 9:20am. Please arrive by 8:50am. Yellow jerseys.

Angie will be in touch soon about some of her fundraising ideas!

From Heather
We have officially registered for the Saratoga tournament along with the Peewee A and Peewee A1 teams. It should be a fun time! We will be staying at the Best Western Plus in Saratoga Springs:

There is an option to add an additional room for nonplayers (ex. grandparents are coming to watch), so if you think you need an additional room, let me know. Coaches - you will need to fill out your coaching profile, and should receive a link to do this also when I input the roster.

Upcoming Events:

07/31/22 - Ice Hockey Training Final
Team - we have the final cost per session for our off ice training:
We ended up coming in at $23 per child a session, with the totals shown in our team email, depending on how many sessions/kids you are attending.
Payment can be done using my venmo - @bohanderek. You'll know it's me because my picture is a megaman character.
Tomorrow is the 1st session at 06:00 PM at Ranfone Training Systems. Ranfone is in the same parking lot as Skate Training where we had our ice time prior to the tournament, but on the opposite end. And we are in the Red Turf room with our trainer Geo.
Prior to your 1st session Ranfone needs the waiver linked here completed for each child:
Any questions or changes please let me know.
07/26/22 - Ice Hockey Training
From Coach Derek
Team - we are looking to see the interest in setting up some off the ice training, with a sports trainer, over the next 5 weeks. When you get a moment please fill out the survey linked above.
Training sessions would be once a week on Mondays, at 06:00 PM, starting 08/01/22 and running for the next 5 weeks (or more if the team decides we'd like to continue).
The location would be:
Ranfone Training Systems LLC
109 Sanford St, Hamden, CT 06514
Training would be done as a group, off the ice, with a sports trainer. The focus would be fun movement, speed, & agility building activities, nothing crazy that would burn the kids out. The cost would be around $225 each session so we are looking to see what kind of turnout we would have to judge the split.

Online registration with USA Hockey is now available and REQUIRED for all HYHA players, coaches and parent volunteers by September 1st, 2022.

07/07/22 - Squirt A Party Change of Date
From Angela
Good Afternoon Everyone!
I’m so sorry for all these emails. It’s pretty much impossible to get everyone together and I apologize for the changes. After changing date to 8/14 we realized that one of our coaches wasn’t available. The NEW date will be Sunday 8/21/2022. This is meant to be fun and casual so even a quick stop to say Hey is welcomed! I hope everyone can make it and if not I hope we can all meet up on 8/28/2022 at HYHA Paradise Event.
Sign up Genius will follow in the upcoming weeks for those who like to bring a treat, side dish, etc. Hopefully the weather cooperates, so bring bathing suits and towels. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have throughout the season. We look forward to seeing you all there!!! Rain date will be scheduled if needed
07/06/22 - WhatsApp Group
Heather has setup a team group on WhatsApp, which is the easiest way to text everyone in the event that there is a last minute change in the schedule, or to just meet up to hang out during tournaments! Please let us know if you are not on the group or would like me to send it to any other numbers, please let me know.
07/05/22 - HYHA Welcome Back Picnic
We are pleased to be able to hold our annual Welcome Back Picnic at Paradise Country Club this year!!
More details to follow, but please save the date of: Sunday, August 28th from 11:00-8:00pm
07/05/22 - Practice (Important)
From Coach Carney
Hello team - I have booked four sheets of ice at Skate Training Facility to enable us to get our legs before the tournament. The ice is located at 109 Sanford Street, Hamden, CT.
Practice times (starting tomorrow) are as follows:
Wednesday, July 6th at 6:40 PM.
Saturday, July 9 at 9:10 AM
Wednesday, July 13 at 6:40 PM
Saturday, July 16 at 10:20 AM
Each session is 50 minutes long. The cost will be $10 a skater per session (if you come to all 4 it would be $40). If we do not get enough skaters, I will cover the excess cost. If we get enough to cover our total cost ($480), any excess will go to managers Suppa and Carney to go into our fundraising account. Throughout the season we'll keep you updated on what that account looks like so we can get the most out of fundraising and tournaments. Payment can be in cash or you can Venmo Heather (you should have her info already).
First and foremost, let me know if you are in for tomorrow night. I know it is late notice, but I was trying to get the most bang for our buck before the tournament, and the consensus was that people didn't really want to drive to South Windsor, so we'll stay local. (Siblings/cousins are welcome at these skates, but they may have to sit out some drills)
All the best,
Coach Carney
07/05/22 - Hamden Squirt A Party Invitation
From Angela
Good Morning Squirt A Families,
Let me start by saying how excited we are for what’s going to be an absolutely fantastic season. Heather and I are going to be working on booking some great tournaments and team activities this year. We will be hosting a Squirt A Team “Kick Off the Season Party” on Sunday August 28 at 1pm (Now August 14th). Sign up Genius will follow in the upcoming weeks for those who like to bring a treat, side dish, etc. Hopefully the weather cooperates, so bring bathing suits and towels. We will have a rain date if needed. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have throughout the season. We look forward to seeing you all there!!!
Address to Party:150 Cloudland Rd North Haven
Please RSVP by 8/21/2022 to my cell 203-710-0427
GO Dragons!!!
07/05/22 - HYHA Home Game Schedule
From Heather
We now know the home ice schedule for the upcoming season, so I will be able to start scheduling games. Yay! Here's the schedule:
Home Ice will be on Saturdays:
8-9:10: Squirt B
9:20-10:30: Squirt A
10:40-12:00: Peewee B
12:10-1:30: Peewee A
06/28/22 - Squirt A Info
From Heather
Here's some important info about our upcoming tournament:
I am in need of everyone's new USA hockey numbers in order to roster the players for the tournament. I need this by the beginning of next week. Players are unable to play in the tournament without an updated USA hockey number. Thank you to those who have already sent them to me!
Please send me $85 to cover the cost of the tournament. My venmo is @heatherlcarney. If you do not have venmo, let me know, and we can arrange another way to pay.
Please send me your player's T-shirt size. The players will be receiving a t-shirt at the tournament.
If you originally said you were able to participate in the tournament, but now are unable to, please let me know so that I'm not trying to track you down. :-)
Coach Derek reserved ice time this Saturday from 9:10-10am at SKATE in Hamden. If you are interested in skating, please respond to Coach Derek's email so he can get a headcount. Thanks Coach Derek for arranging!
Bruin's Dad is able to get ice time in South Windsor for much cheaper than what we could get in Hamden. Coach Carney wanted me to ask everyone whether you would rather pay less and drive to South Windsor, or pay more to stay in Hamden? Let me know what you would rather do and Coach Carney will see about getting ice time the week before the tournament for some fun practices.
Here's some info about our upcoming season:
Angie Suppa is our other team manager, and she will be handling all the fun things this season! She is hoping to get everyone together for a pool party before the start of the season and will let everyone know the details. She and Melissa Buontempo have some great fundraising ideas also, which we will plan to start early in the season to help offset the costs of the tournaments
Once the season starts, I will be sending out weekly emails to remind everyone of practice times and games. If you would like me to add someone else to the email list, please let me know!
I will also be making a team group on WhatsApp, which is the easiest way to text everyone in the event that there is a last minute change in the schedule, or to just meet up to hang out during tournaments! I will use the numbers associated with your player's profile in HYHA to send invites. If you would like me to send it to any other numbers, please let me know.
That's it for now! Have a great rest of the week and hope to see you all on Saturday.
06/27/22 - Optional Ice Time - Saturday 07/02/22 - 09:10AM
From Coach Derek
I've grabbed an optional ice slot this Saturday at 9:10 AM (09:10 - 10AM). This being a busy weekend this is purely optional. The plan is to use it to get on the ice and get a feel for hockey.
Location: Skate Training Facility
Address: 109 Sanford Street, Hamden, CT 06514
If you are coming let me know so I have an idea of a head count.
06/21/22 - Nutmeg State Games Tournament
From our Manager Heather Carney
We are officially registered for the Nutmeg State Games Tournament! Here's some information:
The tournament runs from 7/18-7/24 and we have a guarantee of playing at least 3 games that week. Games will be in the evening (Mon-Fri) and morning-evening times on the weekend. All games will be held at the Newington Arena and once we get the schedule we will send it out to everyone.
Coach Carney is attempting to get ice time in Hamden for some practices the week before. If we are able to obtain it, we will let everyone know the cost.
The tournament is requiring USA Hockey numbers for the players. Please register your player for the 2022-2023 season through USA Hockey and send me their number.
The cost of the tournament is $1,100, which equals $85 per player. Coach Carney has already covered the cost of the tournament. Please send me the payment for your player, either through Venmo (@heatherlcarney) or paypal (heatherlcarney@aol.com). If you do not have either of these methods, let me know and we can arrange another way for you to pay.
I'm excited to get the team together this summer and I'm looking forward to this upcoming season!
05/22/22 - HYHA Uniform ordering deadline approaching
From HYHA
Good evening,
Uniform orders are due this Friday, May 27th. Unfortunately, there is no exception to this deadline, so please don't delay. To help try to make this process easier, I created a google doc for each family to review and make changes to. Click HERE to open the file.
On the bottom of the excel doc, you will see tabs with each team name. Click the team your player is on and review the information entered for accuracy (Including name and player #). If you have not yet replied to let me know your desired sizes, please enter them directly onto this spreadsheet. This document will auto save any changes so you can just close out once complete. If anyone is still unsure and needs assistance with sizing, please reach out and let me know. I have some sizes here and can arrange a time for your son or daughter to come try them on wearing their full gear.
The sizing chart is below:
Size Chart - JOG Athletics - Join Our Game (jogsportswear.com) - Jersey
Shell_Pants - Jog Athletics (jogsportswear.com) - Shell pants
Each player will need the following:
HYHA Yellow Jersey (home) - $47
HYHA Green Jersey (away) - $47
HYHA Shell Pants - $42
HYHA Stitched green socks - $20
HYHA Stitched yellow socks - $20
Total for ordering everything is $176.00
Payments can be sent via VENMO @HYHA1 or mail a check to:
Kevin Paul
92 Rumberg Rd.
Cheshire, CT 06410
If anyone has any questions, or if this spreadsheet is not opening properly, please let me know.
Thank you all for your cooperation!

03/22/22 - Congrats & Hockey Numbers
From Coach Carney
Congratulations on making the Squirt A team. Please get back to me with the number that your player had last year. If this is your first year in Hamden, please give me your top THREE choices for a number for next year. We try very hard to make sure there will be no issues with numbers as the players move up through the different levels. Unfortunately it does happen sometimes, but we do our best to limit it.
Again, congratulations! Keep an eye on your emails, because we may try to do some dry land training prior to the season starting. Tell the kids to shoot pucks and if they are spending too much time on YouTube, make sure some of it consists of studying the game.
02/24/22 - Neck Guard Update
Safety Equipment Rule Change
Effective March 1, 2022, all players registered to a CHC member program are required to wear an unmodified, BNQ Certified, neck protector specifically designed for the purpose of preventing or lessening the severity of lacerations to the neck. This requirement applies to any participant in any sanctioned on-ice event, including but not limited to games, practices, tournaments, jamborees, etc.
CHC does not endorse any particular manufacturer or model, but joins with USA Hockey in its recommendation to choose the guard that provides the most neck coverage possible for each particular player. Substitution of non-conforming alternatives such as skate towels or socks worn around the neck will not constitute compliance.
USA Hockey officials in Connecticut will be charged with enforcement of this CHC rule. At the beginning of each game, all players will be surveyed, and any found to be without a neck guard will be instructed to leave the bench until such time as they are wearing an approved neck guard. Once the game has begun, the first instance of any player found without a neck guard during play will cause a warning to both benches. Subsequent occurrences will result in a misconduct penalty to the offending player.
In games involving non-CHC teams whose affiliates do not require neck guards, those teams will not be subject to this rule. CHC teams playing outside of Connecticut will be expected to follow this rule, regardless of official enforcement.
